I’m embarassed to admit that I’ve spent many minutes (nay, hours) staring at A Table For Two because the photos are awesome. Many days have then been spent cursing my amateur skills, musing on just how he got his photos looking so good and what his trade secrets were. His photography prowess can only be admired and envied.
Oh, what I’d give to learn from the Jedi Master himself…

The amazing Grass-fed Angus T-bone cooked in a tagliata style, first tasted here.
But wait! I can! Billy Law from A Table For Two has decided to share his gift for the camera and in collaboration with Mumu Grill, he’s holding ATFT Photography Workshops. Around 3 – 3.5 hours of learning the fundamentals of food photography plus an amazing multi-course lunch to boot – all for only $85. Personally, I’ve learnt many invaluable things to aide me in improving my photos on this humble blog and coupled with pigging out on that awesome tagliata and brown sugar pavlova, $85 is a bargain. DSLR or compact point-and-shoot? Come in come all, because this class will cater to everybody.

Dessert Platter with the awesome brown sugar pavlova – seriously good… and I’m not even an meringue fan!
Does the whole idea of white balance, exposure and correct composition befuddle* you? And how the heck does ISO affect matters? And if you’re a little more advanced, then the lessons on using Lightroom and Photoshop will cater to your intermediate needs (seriously I got my money’s worth just by learning how to weave Photoshop magic!). These lessons have it all but here’s a tip: know how to work the settings on your camera or at least bring a manual! These workshops are only a few hours and you don’t want to spend all that time trying to find your ISO button. Billy uses a Canon so he isn’t going to know how to work your Nikon or Pentax!
*Snort. I love that word. Befuddle.

Green beans – umm… veges makes for great photo subjects if anything :P
Other than some valuable photography lessons, there are delectable food ready for you to practice your food photography skills on. What began as a small project with initial plans for only two workshops have now taken off and he has just opened registrations for his 5th and 6th classes (July 31st and August 7th). Head over to his blog for more details and to book yourself in. And if you can’t make it, make sure to sign up for updates on future workshops. I’ll leave you now with some photos on what you may expect to eat (and shoot) on the day.
All photos have been taken from the ATFT Photography Workshop on 5th June (and yes, I paid for my class). Menu is subject to change.

18 month Jamon Serrano

Game bird empanadas with Mumu BBQ Sauce

House-made herbed breads and dips

Cherry tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella

Chorizo brasied in red ale and parmesan

Pancetta infused ice cream – yes really!

Dessert platter included: Brown sugar pavlova topped with fresh pineapple and passionfuit sauce, Gingerbread, rhubarb and mascarpone sandwich, chocolate hazelnut tart with ice cream and pancetta infused ice cream

I wish I could take photos like you and Billy ;) Heehee befuddle. I like it almost as much as I like the word discombobulate
JinX! We have the same post up on the same day :D I really enjoyed the class too !
This makes me crave a DSLR camera sooo much.
The food looks delicious, stunning even
Nice work Karen! Thank you so much for coming along to the workshop! LOL loved your disclaimer "yes i paid for my workshop.." hahaha Oh god I am such a stingy little asian! LOL… ok not little… BIG! But definitely asian! LOL
Whoah your photos are amazing! Love the DOF. It's quite exciting doing the class with so many likeminded shutterbugs isn't it? And I'm rather envious about that pancetta-infused ice cream!
Gorgeous photos! Maybe you should hold your own classes now!
omg I love that one too. So gonna use that in a future post! Hehehehe
Hahaha that disclaimer was for readers, just in case…
And yes, so so Asian!! Thanks for the photoshop lessons Billy. Can't wait to see what your future classes might be ;)
that pancetta ice cream was er… weird. Not bad, but weird. I liked the look of your desserts in your class Helen!
Aww thanks Trina but I'd never be as good of a teacher as Billy. And there's still some way to go before I reach his level!
You most definitely should get one! Even if you're scared. I was and I didn't know ONE thing about it when I bought mine. But you will eventually learn it and you'll never look back!
JINX! LOL!

Karen! I think your photos were awesome to begin with! Everyone has their own unique take on things, and yours is exceptional, with or without a class.
oooh such schexy shots! i cant wait for billys class woohoooo
You bloggers in Sydney are so lucky to have the opportunity to do this class – I've been moaning about wanting to go to something like this for a while. I might even have to make a trip over for the next one.
They are hot photo's, I got lots out of it too, but when I did the course, I had an auto digital camera… ;-(
The class was a lot of fun huh? Certainly value for money in my eyes :)
such fond memories of the Grass-fed Angus T-bone cooked in a tagliata style mmmmmmmm one of their signature dishes which i'd happily have again and again :-)
