The Sydney International Food Festival ends this Saturday so that means you now have only 3 nights left to experience a late night Sugar Hit for yourself and a dose of cognac or dessert wine. After literally hooving down our first dessert of the night, we made quick tracks to The Four Seasons Hotel for Sugar Hit #2.

The Sugar Hit is located at The Cafe by Kables to your right at the top of the lobby stairs. As usual there are virtually no waitstaff on the floor so awkwardly we had to meander through the restaurant until we located one lone waiter coming out of the kitchen. It’s even quieter in this hotel, with a handful of tables occupied by, I’m assuming, international tourists and guests of the hotel.
A quick post: The Fours Seasons offered a Baked Chocolate Mousse with a Mandarin Sorbet and an Aniseed Croquant that was delightfully crunchy and thankfully subtle in aniseed. I’m not the hugest fan of mandarin desserts (just the fruit itself) and us three concluded that the distinctive tang of the mandarin doesn’t work with the dense and rich chocolate mousse. Admittedly it tastes much better than Sydney Marriott’s offering but it was sickeningly rich, which I’m sure I’d appreciate a whole lot more if there was much less in my stomach.
Oh yes…it was rich and dense!
It was satisfying enough, but after the two different desserts of the night, we started to lament the lack of imagination in this year’s group of Sugar Hits. I even noticed how The Four Seasons looked eerily similar to last year’s offering! Alas, I fear that certain Sugar Hits in certain establishments have become generic, run-of-the-mill and just plain boring. Geez am I cranky this week or what?
Only one Sugar Hit establishment so far has impressed me immensely this year, which explains why I have been back not once, not twice but 3 times in 17 days! But that’s another story…
Damn that generic dessert wine!
SIFF Sugar Hits are available nightly 9-11pm (times and days can vary with each establishment – check website for details) until October 31st 2009. Bookings are highly recommended.

The chocolate mousse does look good, pity about the rather generic sugar hits you experienced that night :( But I guess, it would take something exceptional to top Perama!
I am definitely going to get to those dessert nights next October
I agree the mousse tasted better but I couldn't imagine eating the whole thing by myself! Hahaha I just find it funny how confused the waiter was and how he only poured us one glass of water…
Ooh such shexy photos. This does look very similar to last year's – a little odd given that Sugar Hit fans are always looking for a new experience?
Nice pics, sad that I missed out on this Sugar Hit. Atleast this year SIFF was a bit better than GFM last year … cept for the name as I prefer GFM.
