Citrus and Candy is going to take a short hiatus for now as The Captain and I escape crazy Sydney for a much needed time off to ourselves amongst the wineries and fresh air (hello Hunter Valley!). Rest assured that normal broadcast will resume very shortly! In the meantime, here's a rundown of my (ultra) lazy Queen's Birthday weekend and a few photos to peruse while you wait...
The iconic Quay restaurant
This Queens Birthday long weekend was suppose to be about doing nothing. Maybe the odd baking and a trashy dvd but all in all, my favourite pair of bum trackies were perfectly laid out and my butt cheeks were programmed to relax for Saturday and Sunday. But it didn't quite work out that way. Don't get me wrong, the lazy was still there, just taken outdoors.

Saturday I caught up with an old friend, played tourist around The Rocks with our cameras (and his new lens), paid a final homage to the Yayoi Kusama Exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art and just did some old fashioned hanging out. On Sunday, I celebrated the first half of an anniversary with The Captain eating and checking out Vivid Sydney and the Light Show around The Rocks and Circular Quay.

On the weekends, The Rocks Markets take over Argyle Street and is the perfect time filler. Sure it's a little gimmicky and aimed purely at tourists but who doesn't enjoy a lazy meander at the markets? Particularly when there are a few culinary goodies to pick up.

And for a sugar revival, Guylian Cafe is at the ready on the corner of Argyle and George Street.

I find the Guylian dessert menu rather inspiring at times so I resorted to an old favourite. The toffee coating was everything it should be in a brulee with the oh-so-satisfying crack giving way to a soft custard. The forest berries gave the brulee a really odd colour and the white chocolate was visibly unnoticed but still, a decent sugar hit.
The best thing was that both locations of Guylian Cafe (the second being at Circular Quay next to Dendy Cinemas) were opened until midnight. With a half frozen face, this proved a popular santuary to defrost oneself with a warm cuppa from the night chill at The Opera House.

if you feel like getting lazy yourself, The Rocks Markets are on Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 5pm. And though I love Guylian for their late hours, their choccie beverages still leave me a little ho-hum. I now call upon Lindt Cafe (the bedlam of orgasmic ice chocolate), to heed my call and open one at this side of town...and till late!
