Colour me sugarless!

Aah
Max Brenner...synonymous with heart-pounding sugar highs and tooth cavities. A while back, Max Brenner was the chocolate cafe du jour before the likes of Lindt, Guylian and others joined the chocolate culture party. I have spent many days and nights at Max's, always ordering the same thing - a $2 pot of melted milk chocolate - eaten or rather licked out rapaciously with a plastic implement aptly named the lick stick.

After my pho therapy over on Church St. Parramatta, my intended holiday detox ended (before it started) with a quick stopover to Max Brenner with Miss Kitty and Laurent Garnier.

The last I remember about this place was that it was always busy and finding a spare table was always a catfight. Tonight however, this was the quietest I have ever seen Max Brenner. Despite this, the service was unfortunately, still a little disorganised.

Still full to the brim with pho, I skipped my usual chocolate pot and chose to satiate my sweet tooth with
a Peanut Butter Iced Chockie ($7). Miss Kitty orders a plate of Banana Praline Crepes ($13) while Laurent Garnier settles with just a Flat White. Our orders took some time to appear, which gave me a chance to gaze at the chocolate store (ooh Alice cups for $30!) and amuse ourselves by goofing off with my camera.

The divine Miss. K

The crepes finally touched down and Miss Kitty weren't too happy, commenting that it would normally have melted chocolate inside the crepes with the bananas but alas, tonight this essential element was missing.

I was looking forward to having my favourite chocolate and peanut butter hit but was disappointed that what I got essentially, was a
cup of slightly sweetened ice with little chocolate flavour and virtually no peanut butter sweetness! In case the flavours were concentrated at the bottom I gave it a good stir but it remained unsweetened, creami-less and diluted. $7 was already a little steep to pay for a 'milkshake' (Laurent Garnier...mouth agape!) but for this? On a positive note I still loved the Alice cup that housed my brown ice but still...colour me sugarless!

My $7 cup of brown ice...no sugar hit makes a cranky girl indeed!

At least the coffee was coffee...even though it arrived long after Miss Kitty and I received our orders.

Sadly tonight we left Max's dissatisfied and sugar-free, which is not the way to go coming out of a chocolate store! Hopefully it was just a bad night in Parramatta but at least the chocolate stockpile was still fun to look at...

Arrgh how frustrating. Bad quality control is so annoying as you know what it should be like. But imagine if it were your first time there? You'd probably never go back!

Miss Honey

Ouch that's disappointing. I've only ever been to the Paddington and city stores. I agree, $7 for a watered down milkshake imitation is poor form:(

Belle

I've found the food overpriced for what you get. But the chocolates are lovely, esp. the ones with the printing on them.

Helen (AugustusGloop)

Shame about your PB-less drink. I find their drinks are quite pricey and the desserts a little too sweet for me.

I like the idea of having pho-theray and then a massive chocolate hit afterwards. It's all about balance, no? :)

FFichiban

X( oh noes the PB chockie shakkeeee! :( I love Max but this has left me as unsatisfied as you guys!

Karen

Hi Lorraine: how true...but lucky for them I'm not a first timer. Let's hope it was a one-off :)

Hi Miss Honey: Hehe thanks for your sympathies :)

Hi Belle: I agree! :)

Hi Helen: It is indeed! :)

Hi FFichiban: luckily we weren't there together! There would've been hell to pay lol!
