Who's That Girl?

Citrus and Candy is written by that girl above...yes that's her...hiding behind the Elmo baby wipe (please don't judge).

My name is Karen, born in London, raised in Perth, living in Sydney for 15 years and reared by Malaysian-Chinese parents. I am a food tragic with a penchant for recipe books, miniature-sized objects and all things kitsch. Armed with the rest of my Sesame Street toiletries and my ultra-camp Joy of Liberace cookbook, I aim to lovingly blog my culinary ventures in a bid to discover a life outside of instant noodles (they're sooo good but sooo bad).

I'm an all Aussie girl but a pommie-at-heart. I believe that condensed milk eaten with a spoon is the height of indulgence. Pork crackling is the food of the gods and watermelons and lychees are the fruits of goddesses. My favourite kitchen soundtrack is some frighteningly cheesy 70s disco and 80s power ballads (again, please don't judge).

I live, breathe, love, dream, read, photograph, cook, bake, write and talk about food incessantly. Easily identified in restaurants and festivals by her big camera and the pedantic photographing of her dinner dish. I've still yet to get use to the eyebrow-raising and confused expressions at this odd behaviour. I love being in the kitchen more than ever now, so I've decided to dedicate this blog solely to the trials and tribulations of the hearth and home. I can still be identified by my big camera, but only if you were spying on me at my house :P

Who is Mr. S aka The Captain?

My partner-in-crime, willing test subject, fellow adventurer, backseat driver, photography assistant, kitchenhand, source of comfort, occasional hand model and handbag holder. More importantly he's my ever patient dinner partner who is the only person outside the foodblogger circle that will wait without complaining while I take 50 shots of a macaron from all angles. What a gem.

Come along inside...we'll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place.

I bake to the sounds of cheesy 80s music too LOL glad to see that someone does that too. You have a great blog here, I have enjoyed reading the recipes and look forward to trying some out.

As someone who plays bass guitar for a cousin of Mr. Showmanship (not kidding - Steve Liberace is his name and he is related), I can appreciate this! Cheers!

Hi Brenda: Nice to know I'm not alone but at this day and age I'm not embarassed by it any longer. In fact I'm quite proud to be a child of the 80s! Thanks for your lovely comments :)

Hi 1WineDude: Oh my god are you serious?! *excited flutter* Aren't you lucky? :)

Irene
